Tempest Rising is the sort of real-time strategy game that speaks in base building, resource routes, and unit control instead of cutscene drama. By our assessment, its appeal is that it tries to bring back the clear, busy feel of classic RTS design: make a base, harvest, tech up, and push with armies that need attention. The honest limit is also built into that model, because this style asks for multitasking and punishes sloppy timing. In practice it is a constant shuffle between economy and combat, with the map always asking for one more unit or one more repair. Against modern streamlined strategy games, Tempest Rising sits much closer to the older Command & Conquer tradition. The game is for players who want that direct RTS rhythm, not for anyone looking for a slow grand plan.
