THE GAME OF LIFE

THE GAME OF LIFE is built around quick turns, money arithmetic, and the little family-destination board-game loop that has made it a household shelf piece for years. By our assessment, its appeal is plain enough: children and casual groups can play it without learning a heavy ruleset, and it turns careers, houses, and chance cards into an easy social table game. The trade-off is that the decisions are mostly shallow, so the luck of the spinner and cards matters more than real planning. In practice it feels breezy, a bit noisy, and heavily dependent on whatever story the table invents around the pieces. Compared with strategy games it is light; compared with pure party games it asks for a little more patience. The Astrina catalogue files it under Games, which fits its basic board-game identity, and the whole thing is at its best when nobody expects more than a quick family round.
