System Shock: Enhanced Edition still belongs to the old-school immersive sim camp: careful movement, scavenging, hacking, and a lot of reading the space instead of being led by markers. By our assessment, it is strongest when its map, inventory pressure, and audio logs make every deck feel hostile and alive at the same time. The trade-off is plain: the interface and combat feel dated next to modern shooters, and it asks for patience with its pace and awkwardness. In practice that means peeking around corners, managing scarce resources, and getting lost in the station’s layered layout more than once. Compared with streamlined sci-fi action games, it wants more attention and gives more atmosphere in return. If someone wants a museum piece that still plays, this is one of the clearer examples; if someone wants a smooth contemporary shooter, it is the wrong shelf entirely.
