Sword and Fairy

Sword and Fairy carries the weight of a long-running Chinese role-playing series, and that matters more than any single entry. By our assessment, it is for players who want party-based RPGs with fantasy, martial-arts flavor, and a strong reliance on story, characters, and progression systems. Its strength is that it brings a regional style that feels distinct from the usual Western fantasy template. The downside is familiar for the genre: the series can be generous with melodrama and systems, which some players enjoy and others bounce off immediately. In practice it tends to mean menus, party building, turn toward narrative scenes, and a slower burn than action-first games. Compared with the biggest global JRPG names, it sits a little off to the side, which is part of the charm and part of the barrier. Sword and Fairy is a good pick for someone who wants fantasy RPGs with a different cultural texture and not just another generic swords-and-spells loop.
