Summer Nightmare

Summer Nightmare is a small-scale horror game built around tension and atmosphere more than systems, and that already tells you who it is for: players who want a short, moody session rather than a long mechanical climb. By our assessment, it works best when it keeps the player in the dark and lets uncertainty do the heavy lifting. The downside is the same one many lean horror games have: once the scare pattern is seen, the hold weakens and the game has less room to surprise. In practice this kind of game depends on pacing, sound, and a steady sense of unease, not on deep progression or complex combat. It sits closer to indie scare pieces than to big survival horror, and it will appeal more to people who like atmosphere than to those who want elaborate play. Summer Nightmare is not trying to be a sprawling horror system, and the narrow scope is both its strength and its ceiling.
