Substance 3D Painter 2022

Substance 3D Painter 2022 is a professional texturing tool, not a game in the usual sense, and it is aimed at artists who need to paint materials directly onto 3D models. By our assessment, its biggest strength is the workflow: layering smart materials, masks, brushes, and baked maps makes it practical for building worn metal, fabric, skin, and all the little surface details that make a model read well. The trade-off is that it asks for real familiarity with texture work and a fairly capable machine, because this is not a light sketchpad. In use it feels precise and technical, with many panels and settings that reward patience more than impulse. Compared with simpler 3D painting tools, Substance 3D Painter 2022 sits near the top end of the field and is much more standard in studios than in casual hobby work. The name is long, but the job is plain: get believable surfaces onto assets. By our assessment, it is for people who already know why roughness and normal maps matter, not for someone looking to doodle in 3D for the first time.
