SteamWorld Heist

SteamWorld Heist stands out because it turns a side-on tactics game into one where aiming matters as much as movement, with ricochets off walls doing a lot of the work. By our assessment, that gives it a tighter, more deliberate feel than many strategy games: every shot has a line, a risk, and a little bit of theatre when the bullet bounces into place. The downside is that the rhythm can stay careful and compact rather than sprawling, so it never aims for the grand scale some tactics fans want. In practice it is the sort of game where a short plan, a clean angle, and one smart shot often matter more than raw numbers on the screen. Compared with bigger, more complex strategy titles, SteamWorld Heist is leaner and easier to read, which is part of its charm. It is a good fit for players who like tactics but dislike being buried in systems, and it is less appealing if they want huge armies or a slow campaign of heavy management. The side-view setup and the bouncing shots are what make it memorable.
