Starcom: Unknown Space

Starcom: Unknown Space is a ship-commanding space RPG for players who like to plan routes, manage a crew, and tinker with a modular vessel rather than sprint through combat. By our assessment, what makes it interesting is the mix of freeform exploration and systems-heavy spaceship play, which gives it a more hands-on feel than a lot of streamlined sci-fi games. The price of that freedom is that it expects attention: navigation, upgrades, and crew choices all matter, and the game does not hide its menus. In practice it feels like running a small expedition in a dangerous frontier, with trading, scanning, and odd encounters doing as much work as shooting. Compared with story-first space RPGs, Starcom: Unknown Space sits on the more mechanical side and asks the player to enjoy the machine of it.
