Star Fields sounds grander than the games that have actually defined the space genre, and that mismatch is part of the problem. By our assessment, the name suggests either a small space-themed project or a title that wants to borrow the mood of exploration, but there is not enough widely known substance to give it more than a cautious judgment. If it is a game at all, it would be expected to live or die on atmosphere, traversal, and whether the star map feels worth moving through.
