Somerville

Somerville asks for patience, because its whole effect depends on walking, watching, and solving spaces without much hand-holding. By our assessment, it appeals to players who want cinematic sci-fi atmosphere, environmental puzzles, and a side-scrolling adventure that trusts its visual language. The good part is that the game can make a ruined world feel readable and intimate without drowning it in exposition. Its limit is the usual one for this style: when the puzzle logic is too opaque, the mood stays strong but the flow slows down. In practice, you spend a lot of time observing silhouettes, timing movement, and reacting to the world’s strange changes rather than mastering combat systems. Somerville sits closer to Inside or other mood-heavy narrative puzzle games than to an action adventure, and that comparison is fair. By our assessment, it is best for people who like atmosphere to lead and mechanics to stay quiet in the background.
