Soldat 2

Soldat 2 stays appealing because it is a fast, side-scrolling multiplayer shooter built around movement, rifles, grenades, and messy little duels on compact 2D maps. By our assessment, its best quality is the feel of momentum: diving, sliding, and firing while the screen fills with ricochets and sudden deaths. The trade-off is plain too, because this kind of game can feel rough and unforgiving, with a high ceiling for reflexes and map knowledge. In practice it is the sort of game that rewards quick reads and a tolerance for chaos rather than careful planning. Compared with slower tactical shooters, it is closer to arcade combat than to simulation. Soldat 2 works best when a player wants immediate action and does not mind learning by getting shot a lot first.
