Solar War gives you a top-down space battlefield where fleets, beams, and explosions do most of the talking. By our assessment, it is strongest as a compact real-time skirmish game for players who want to move ships, pick targets, and keep the pressure on without a lot of ceremony. Its weakness is the familiar one for this sort of game: once the combat pattern is understood, the appeal rests on how well the battles are tuned rather than on a huge range of systems. In play it feels busy and direct, with constant repositioning and enough noise on screen to keep attention pinned to the middle of the fight. It sits near other lightweight space combat titles rather than grand strategy, and that is probably the right expectation. Solar War is about managing a fight in orbit, not about building a long empire.
