Soccer Manager 2021

Soccer Manager 2021 is for people who want the transfer market, tactics, wages, and lineups more than the kick-by-kick action on the pitch. By our assessment, that manager-first focus is the real point: it lets you tinker with squads, budgets, and match plans in the way football management games are supposed to. The downside is that this kind of game can feel abstract if what you want is the drama of watching the ball itself, because the pleasure comes from spreadsheets and decisions rather than animation. In practice, the rhythm is selection, adjustment, simulation, and another round of selection, which can be absorbing for some and dry for others. It sits with the long-running Football Manager style of play, but usually with a lighter and more accessible feel than the heavyweight end of the genre. The number in the name is part of the title, and the game’s appeal lives in the management loop rather than in on-pitch spectacle.
