Soccer Manager 2018 is for players who would rather run a football club than control the ball. By our assessment, its value lies in transfers, tactics, squad building, and the long chain of decisions that make a season feel managed instead of merely played. The obvious trade-off is that the action on the pitch stays abstract, so anyone wanting direct match control will feel the distance. In practice it is a calendar-and-squad game: lineups, finances, morale, and the odd hard choice when the table starts to tighten. It belongs with football management sims rather than sports action, and the 2018 title points to the version in that series.
