Shadows of Doubt

Shadows of Doubt stands out because it turns detective work into a procedural city full of names, routines, and clues to follow. By our assessment, that is its real strength: it gives players a sandbox of surveillance, interviews, apartment searches, and evidence gathering instead of a fixed mystery path. The price is that the system can feel messy, repetitive, and sometimes more like clerical work than a neat puzzle. In practice, a case here is about reading schedules, checking records, and noticing small links that many games would simply automate away. It sits between immersive sim and mystery game, closer to a living investigation toy than to a tightly scripted noir. That makes it compelling for players who enjoy methodical sleuthing and less welcoming for anyone who wants a clean clue chain handed over quickly. The game is at its best when the procedural city starts to feel like a place that can actually be read.
