Serious Sam: The Random Encounter

Serious Sam: The Random Encounter swaps the usual run-and-gun blast for a turn-based rhythm, and that is its whole point. By our assessment, it is a compact spin on the Serious Sam idea for players who like monster waves and gunfights but do not need the series’ usual first-person speed. The good part is the clear loop: move, shoot, reload, survive the next screenful of enemies, with the familiar Serous Sam tone doing a lot of the work. The limit is obvious too: if what people want is the classic frantic sprint through huge arenas, this smaller tactical format can feel like a side road rather than the main route. In practice it plays more like a light strategy game built from shooter pieces, with constant pressure but less chaos in the hands. It sits apart from the mainline entries by being playful and deliberate instead of fast and wide-open. It is for players who are curious about the series’ humour and monster hordes, and less for anyone who only wants the pure first-person rush.
