Screeps: Arena

Screeps: Arena is a programming-focused strategy game, and that immediately narrows it to players who like to think in logic, scripts, and controlled automation. By our assessment, its real strength is that it turns combat into a planning problem: instead of reacting with fingers alone, the player builds a system that behaves under pressure. That is a rare and genuinely sharp idea in games, and it gives the match a very different texture from ordinary real-time strategy. The downside is equally clear, because a game like this asks for patience and a willingness to learn a more technical way of playing; anyone wanting direct action may bounce off it. In practice Screeps: Arena is less about reflexes than about writing something that survives contact with another mind. It sits in the odd but memorable corner where strategy and coding meet.
