Scanner Sombre

Scanner Sombre is about moving through darkness and building the world yourself with a scanning beam, so the player is always part explorer and part technician. Its real strength is the atmosphere created by that LIDAR-like reveal: cave spaces appear as points and outlines, which makes every step feel careful and a little uneasy. By our assessment, the downside is that the premise is the whole engine, so once the novelty of reading space through scans wears off, the game leans heavily on mood rather than on variety. In practice it is slow, quiet, and very attentive to sound and motion, with the blackness doing as much work as the light. Compared with standard horror games, it is less about jump scares and more about spatial uncertainty. Scanner Sombre suits players who enjoy experimental first-person games and do not mind a short, concentrated experience.
