Sanitarium

Sanitarium is built for people who like horror stories that move through the mind instead of the hallway. Its strength is the broken, dreamlike logic: surreal rooms, unsettling characters, and a mood that keeps shifting under you. By our assessment, it is memorable because it uses point-and-click adventure structure to make confusion part of the experience. The downside is that this kind of puzzle-heavy surrealism can feel opaque when the game asks you to read symbols instead of following straightforward goals. In practice it has the texture of a grim puzzle adventure, with the player piecing together meaning from fragments rather than charging ahead. Compared with cleaner horror games, it sits closer to psychological unease than to jump scares. Sanitarium is most interesting when you want atmosphere and strange images to do the heavy lifting, not when you want a simple path forward.
