STAR WARS Battlefront II

STAR WARS Battlefront II is the big licensed shooter people reach for when they want Star Wars battles on a large battlefield with familiar ships, blasters, and classes. By our assessment, its strongest side is the scale and fan-service fantasy of jumping between infantry, heroes, and vehicles in the same match. The weak spot is that licensed spectacle can only carry so much, because once the skin of the setting is stripped away it is still a class-based multiplayer shooter with all the usual repetition. In practice it can feel lively and dramatic one round, then routine the next, depending on maps and matchmaking. It sits in the middle of the Battlefield-style shooter family rather than standing as a deep single-player story game, and the Star Wars name does a lot of the heavy lifting. STAR WARS Battlefront II is for people who mainly want to inhabit that universe inside an online shooter, not for someone looking for a fresh design idea.
