SNK 40th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION is a package for people who want a run of classic SNK arcade and home games in one place, with the museum shelf and the playable shelf mixed together. By our assessment, its big strength is preservation: it lets old action games, shooters, and oddball curios stay easy to launch and easy to compare. The trade-off is that a collection like this is only as strong as the individual games inside it, so the appeal rises and falls with taste for older design and sharper difficulty. In practice it feels like browsing a curated archive that happens to boot into games, often with bonus material and history around the edges.
