SIMULACRA

SIMULACRA is a phone-based horror game, and its whole trick is that the interface itself becomes the haunted object. By our assessment, that gives it a strong immediate hook: texts, calls, photos, and apps are the tools of the mystery, so the player is always reading the device the way a character would. The limit is clear too, because this style lives or dies on pace and novelty; once the device gimmick feels familiar, the tension depends on how well the story keeps moving. In practice it plays like investigative clicking and message reading more than open-ended exploration. It sits with other screen-life horror titles, closer to a thriller about digital traces than to a conventional jump-scare game. It is named SIMULACRA in the catalogue as a game, and that fits the form well. Good for players who like eerie deduction through interfaces, not for anyone who wants free movement or combat.
