Rogue Trooper Redux is a third-person shooter for people who want cover fire, weapon swapping, and a sci-fi campaign with a strong comic-book identity. By our assessment, its best trait is that it gives the old Rogue Trooper material a cleaner, more modern presentation without turning it into something generic. The action is built around moving through firefights, picking the right loadout, and using the squad-buddy gear in a way that makes the battlefield feel a little more tactical than a straight run-and-gun game. The downside is that the structure still belongs to an older style of shooter, so repetition and straightforward objectives can show through. In practice it has the feel of a mid-budget campaign game that wants you to keep advancing, take cover, and read the combat space rather than rush blindly. Rogue Trooper Redux sits below the biggest blockbuster shooters in spectacle, but it has more character than a lot of plain military clones.
