River City Melee Mach!!

River City Melee Mach!! leans into side-scrolling brawling, so it is mainly for people who like moving through stages, chaining punches and kicks, and clearing a screen full of opponents. By our assessment, its best feature is the direct, readable combat of the River City style: simple controls, fast reactions, and a playful arcade pace. The limit is also part of the appeal, because this kind of game lives on repetition and on how much you enjoy the loop of entering a fight, cleaning up a room, and moving on. In practice it feels immediate rather than complicated, with most of the pleasure coming from timing, crowd control, and the comic energy of the series. It sits closer to classic beat-’em-ups than to modern open-ended action, and River City Melee Mach!! is the sort of game to pick when straightforward brawling is the point.
