Rise of Venice

Rise of Venice asks you to enjoy slow accumulation: trading routes, city influence, and the steady growth of a merchant house are the whole point. By our assessment, it is at its best when you are planning profitable exchanges and watching a small commercial web spread across the Adriatic instead of chasing constant combat. The trade-off is that this is a measured strategy game, so anyone wanting immediate action or a noisy empire-builder may find it too restrained. In practice it plays like bookkeeping with ships, where routes, prices, and expansion matter more than spectacle. Compared with flashier city or trade games, it leans harder into commerce than conquest and that gives it a distinct identity. It is for players who like economy first and patience second, and who do not mind a game that rewards careful growth more than quick wins. The limit is simple: if the pleasure of watching numbers and networks grow is not there, Rise of Venice has little else to lean on.
