Ridge Racer Unbounded pushes the series away from clean arcade cornering and into rougher, crash-heavy street racing. By our assessment, that is its main point: it is less about polished lines and more about smashing through the environment, building up aggression, and using the track as something to attack. The downside is that this shift also makes it feel less like classic Ridge Racer, so fans of the older glide-and-drift style may find the change too blunt. In practice it is a loud racing game with a lot of contact and a less delicate feel than the name suggests. Ridge Racer Unbounded sits off to one side of the usual racing field, and it is for players who want impact and chaos more than neat driving.
