RetroMaze

RetroMaze leans on the old maze-runner idea: quick navigation, simple hazards, and the satisfaction of finding your way through a compact layout. By our assessment, that simplicity is its main appeal, because it keeps the focus on route choice and reflexes instead of long systems or heavy explanation. The downside is equally plain, since a maze game can run out of novelty once the pattern becomes familiar and the surprises are mostly in the layout. In play it should feel immediate, with little waiting and little ceremony, the kind of thing you can understand fast and move on from fast. Compared with larger puzzle or adventure games, it is narrower and more direct, which is fine if that is what you want. People looking for a short, old-school diversion may enjoy it; those wanting depth, story, or variety probably will not. RetroMaze is a straightforward case of less being the point, and that is enough for a modest mark.
