Reigns: The Witcher

Within the Reigns family of swipe-driven games, Reigns: The Witcher brings the familiar left-or-right decision format into the Witcher setting. Choices move the narrative along, and the pleasure comes from seeing how a brief decision changes the situation or opens another encounter. The Witcher characters and dry humor give the format a distinct flavour, while the simple swipes keep each turn quick to understand. By our assessment, it is a neat match of a recognizable fantasy world with a compact, replayable decision game. The trade-off is that choices are compressed into card-sized prompts; players who want lengthy exploration, detailed combat or a sprawling role-playing system will find those elements missing. It is most engaging when the small decisions and changing outcomes are the point. A whole turn can begin and end with a single swipe.
