Re-Volt

Re-Volt is remembered as a toy-car racer that takes tiny vehicles and gives them proper track drama. By our assessment, its best trick is the handling: these little remote-control cars slide, bounce, and lose traction in a way that makes corners feel busy rather than clean. The downside is that the physics can be unforgiving, so a small mistake on a narrow course tends to cost more than expected. In practice it has the feel of loose arcade racing, with bright tracks, awkward obstacles, and a constant sense that the car is only barely under control. Compared with heavier simulation racers, it is simpler and more playful; compared with pure kart racers, it is rougher around the edges and a bit more slippery. Re-Volt works best when someone wants a race game that is mischievous instead of polished.
