Radio Commander: Vietnam '64 makes the player do something unusually stripped-down for a war game: issue orders by radio while looking at a map and not a battlefield view. By our assessment, that makes it for people who like command decisions, uncertainty, and the pressure of acting with partial information. Its main strength is the idea itself, because the whole point is reading the map, choosing units, and talking through a war instead of playing a glossy combat shooter. The downside is that this kind of remote command can feel abstract and demanding, especially if someone wants direct action. In practice it is a game of listening, interpreting, and keeping track of where everyone is supposed to be, which gives it a tense, paper-strewn feel rather than spectacle. Compared with real-time tactics games, it sits much closer to command-room simulation than to front-line combat. Radio Commander: Vietnam '64 is about control at a distance, and that distance is exactly what gives it its shape.
