Quake II RTX

Quake II RTX is the same fast, sharp shooter as Quake II, but rebuilt around ray-traced lighting that makes the metal corridors and slime-soaked bases pop in a new way. By our assessment, it is for people who already like old-school movement shooters and want to see one of them stripped down to reflections, shadows, and bright surfaces. The best thing here is the contrast between simple level geometry and the way light now behaves on it; that upgrade gives a familiar game a clean technical showcase. The downside is plain enough: it is still Quake II, so the core loop is about speed, combat, and repetition, not modern story or open-ended systems. In practice it feels like a classic run dressed for a graphics demo, which is the point. It sits above a normal remaster in visual ambition, but it is not trying to become a different game.
