Psychonauts 2

Psychonauts 2 is built for players who want platforming tied to character comedy, not just jumps from one ledge to another. By our assessment, its best trick is the way each mental world turns an idea, fear, or obsession into something playable, so the levels feel like jokes with real structure behind them. The downside is that it can be busier than a plain platformer, because the game keeps changing the visual rules and the kind of challenge in front of you. In practice that makes it playful and packed with ideas, with constant movement between exploration, traversal, and light combat. It sits well above ordinary mascot platforming in inventiveness, but it still depends on the usual precision of jumps and camera control. Psychonauts 2 is strongest when the humour and the level design land together, and it keeps that balance more often than not.
