Proteus

Proteus is less a conventional game than a quiet place to walk through, with simple first-person movement and an emphasis on sound, color, and seasonal change. By our assessment, its strength is the way it turns a small island into a mood piece without pushing objectives at every step. The downside is obvious: if someone needs structure, challenge, or clear progression, there is very little here to hold onto. In practice it feels meditative, spare, and slightly detached, with interaction kept to a minimum. Compared with most indie exploration games, Proteus strips the format down further and trusts atmosphere to do the work. It is a good fit for players who want a short, reflective experience and not a set of systems to master; the island is the whole point, and it stays that way.
