Pride of Nations

Pride of Nations stands out because it is a grand strategy game that wants the player to manage states, industry, armies, diplomacy, and the slow grind of a whole historical era, and by our assessment, that ambition is its real selling point. It is for people who enjoy spreadsheets of power more than instant action, since the pleasure comes from long planning, shifting priorities, and watching one decision echo across several systems. The honest cost is time and attention: these games ask you to learn their menus, their maps, and their many exceptions. In practice, that means a lot of reading and a lot of waiting for the next move to matter. Its reputation sits with the harder end of strategy, somewhere between a civ-building sandbox and a wargame, and it will not suit anyone who wants a quick, clean match.
