Preserve

Preserve is a tile-placement puzzle about building a living landscape, and it is for players who like calm rules with real spatial choices. By our assessment, its strongest point is the way small pieces and ecosystem-style scoring push you to think about adjacency, balance, and where each shape can do the most work. It has the usual puzzle trade-off: once you understand the system, the pressure comes more from planning well than from surprise. In practice that makes it a slow, neat kind of game, the sort that rewards a tidy board and a patient eye rather than quick reflexes. Compared with bigger strategy games it is lighter and easier to settle into, but it still asks you to care about layout instead of just filling space. The title fits the experience well, because what you are really doing is preserving a pattern as much as constructing one. People who want a quiet puzzle with nature-themed goals should find it appealing, while anyone looking for action or drama will not get much from it. The board itself is the whole conversation.
