Pony Island is less a normal game than a prank built from menus, fake screens, and the player’s own curiosity. By our assessment, that trick is exactly why it works: it keeps turning the act of clicking around into part of the joke, while the puzzle structure gives the whole thing a clear shape instead of letting it drift. The upside is originality and constant surprise; the downside is that the humor and fourth-wall games are doing a lot of the work, so anyone who wants a straight, conventional experience may bounce off it. In practice it is short, strange, and very aware of how it is being played. Compared with ordinary puzzle games, it cares more about subversion and misdirection than about clean rule sets. Pony Island is strongest for players who enjoy being fooled a little and then figuring out how the trick is built.
