PlanetSide Arena

PlanetSide Arena tries to turn the PlanetSide name into a smaller, match-based shooter, so it is aimed at people who like large-scale faction combat but want something shorter and more contained. By our assessment, its appeal is the same thing its parent series is known for: squads, classes, and a battlefield that is supposed to feel crowded and noisy rather than tidy. The trade-off is that this format can lose the sprawling war feel that made PlanetSide distinct, and the game has to do a lot in each match to keep that scale from feeling thin. In practice that means more waiting for the next push, more reading of the map, and more value placed on coordination than on lone heroics. It sits closer to arena shooters with objectives than to the full territorial grind of the main series, which makes it easier to approach but less singular. PlanetSide Arena is for players who want the setting without the long haul, and it will not satisfy someone looking for the full persistent-war version.
