Patrician III

Patrician III is for players who want a trade-and-economy game more than a combat game, with cargo routes, prices, and careful expansion doing the real work. By our assessment, its best quality is that it turns merchant life into a proper system: buying low, selling high, building ships, and making the map matter through routes and markets. The downside is that this kind of game asks for patience and a tolerance for menus, since the pleasure comes from planning more than from action. In practice it feels slower and more managerial than flashy, which is exactly why it has a place beside grand strategy and business sims rather than beside adventure games. It suits people who like watching numbers and routes become momentum, while anyone looking for quick combat or a strong hand-holding story will probably bounce off it. Patrician III is a clean example of economic play, and that is still its draw.
