PAC-MAN 256 takes the old maze-chase idea and pushes it into an endless run where the bottom of the screen becomes the real danger, which is exactly why it still feels sharp. By our assessment, its best feature is the tight, readable loop: eat dots, grab power-ups, avoid ghosts, and keep moving before the glitch wall catches up. The limit is built in, because endless arcade runs depend on repetition and score-chasing more than on long-term variety. In practice it is fast, clean, and easy to understand in seconds, then hard to keep alive once the board fills up. It sits between classic PAC-MAN and newer endless mobile-style arcade design. PAC-MAN 256 is the kind of spin-off that works because it changes one rule and commits to it.
