Our End of the World sounds grand, but as a game idea it usually points to small-scale survival, scarcity, and whatever choices a collapse leaves behind. By our assessment, the name promises a bleak endgame mood more than spectacle, and that can be effective when the systems are clear and the pressure is constant. The downside is that end-of-the-world games can become all tone if they do not give the player enough to do besides managing lack. In play, this kind of thing often feels slow, tense, and narrow, with each decision carrying too much weight for comfort. Compared with apocalypse games that chase combat or open-world roaming, it is probably more focused and less noisy.
