Our Darker Purpose

Our Darker Purpose is a grim action role-playing game with a strong schoolhouse horror look, and by our assessment that mix is what gives it character. Its strength is the mood: the setting, enemies, and overall visual language push hard toward unease, so the game does not just ask for combat, it asks for nerve. The downside is that a heavy atmosphere can make the underlying structure feel less generous than its style promises, especially if the player wants tidy progression and comfort. In practice it is the kind of game where the tone does a lot of the work, and that can be memorable even when the mechanics are the main burden. It sits between roguelike tension and action-RPG structure, so it is not a relaxed tour and not a broad power fantasy either. People who want a bleak, distinctive run through a hostile place will get more from it than players who mainly want straightforward character progression.
