Orwell: Ignorance is Strength puts the player in the role of checking information, following leads and deciding what should be passed upward in a surveillance state. By our assessment, its strength is the way it makes investigation feel procedural: reading, connecting names, and choosing which details matter becomes the whole point of play. The downside is that this is more a guided narrative investigation than a freeform system, so the range of action is narrower than in sandbox detective games. In practice it plays through screens, files and social links, with the tension coming from what gets reported and what gets ignored. Compared with lighter choice-driven games, it is more focused on surveillance and consequence than on branching freedom. Orwell: Ignorance is Strength suits players who like story games built around documents and judgment calls, and it is less welcoming if open-ended problem solving is the main draw.
