Only Up is one of those games built on repeated climbing, where a single mistake can send progress sliding back down. The downside is obvious too, because this kind of design asks for patience and a tolerance for frustration, not for relaxed play. In practice it is about precision movement and a lot of restarting, with the appeal coming from each small bit of progress rather than from variety. Compared with broader platformers, it is stripped down and almost entirely about ascent. Only Up suits players who enjoy tense, unforgiving movement challenges; everyone else will mostly feel the repetition before the payoff. The ceiling is narrow, but the idea is very clear.
