NORTH

NORTH is one of those minimalist games that sells itself on mood first and mechanics second. By our assessment, its appeal comes from the stark, stripped-back presentation and the way it uses that to build a strange, uneasy sense of place rather than a busy challenge loop. The downside is that this kind of design can feel very slight if you want systems, variety, or a lot of interaction. In practice it tends to be a short, quiet experience where the tone does most of the work and the player reads meaning into what is left out. It sits much closer to art-game territory than to mainstream adventure or action. That makes NORTH an easy match for people who like short, experimental pieces, and a poor fit for anyone expecting depth to come from mechanics instead of atmosphere.
