Mothman

Mothman is the sort of title that borrows a ready-made legend, so the real question is whether the game uses that folklore as horror, investigation, or camp. By our assessment, the strongest version would be one that leans into the creature’s local mystery and turns it into atmosphere, not just a name on a splash screen. The obvious limit is that a famous monster concept can feel thin if the game does not build a proper world around it. In play, that usually means cautious exploration, reading clues, and waiting for the thing to appear rather than constant action. Compared with other folklore-based games, Mothman would stand or fall on tone: serious dread, pulpy fun, or something awkwardly between the two. It is a natural pick for players who like cryptid stories and eerie settings, and not a good match for anyone expecting a broad systems game. The creature name does a lot of the work before the first mechanic does.
