Mortal Shell asks for patience in a way many action RPGs only pretend to. By our assessment, it is a compact Soulslike built around possession of shell bodies, deliberate stamina management, and a very small margin for error in close combat. That makes its fights feel heavier and more defensive than flashy, and the hard edges of its world suit players who like reading enemy timing instead of rushing through rooms. The trade-off is plain: the map and build variety are narrower than in the biggest games of the type, so the loop can feel constrained once the novelty of the shell mechanic settles. It sits closer to a lean, harsh side project in the genre than to a sprawling flagship, and the shell-swapping idea gives it a distinct texture without softening the punishment.
