Monster Train 2

Monster Train 2 leans into the kind of deckbuilding roguelike that wants quick decisions, messy synergies, and a tolerance for runs that go off the rails. By our assessment, it is strongest when it keeps handing out awkward choices between clan combinations, upgrades, and route planning on the train’s vertical lanes. The appeal is the loop: build a broken deck, place units under pressure, and watch a fight turn on one lucky draw or one bad positioning call. Its ceiling is also its limit, because that style can feel like repetition if the card pool and run structure do not keep throwing new problems at you. Compared with Slay the Spire, it looks louder and more tactical in the moment, with more emphasis on unit placement and layered combat. Monster Train 2 is for people who like roguelike runs that reward adaptation more than careful long-term perfection, and it is not for anyone who wants a calm, linear strategy game.
