Meridian 59

Meridian 59 matters because it belongs to the early wave of online role-playing games, the kind that helped define what a persistent multiplayer world could look like. By our assessment, its real value is historical as much as mechanical: it is a name people reach for when talking about the roots of the genre rather than just another old MMO. The limit is obvious too, since older online design can feel sparse and rough beside later standards. In practice, that usually means a game shaped by community, movement through shared space, and slower systems than modern players expect. Meridian 59 sits in the same conversation as the first generation of online RPGs, and the number in its title is part of the name itself.
