Mechajammer puts mood and exploration ahead of clean, modern combat, which is exactly why it stands out. By our assessment, its strength is the dense cyberpunk tabletop feel: party management, dialogue, scavenging and a world that expects caution more than swagger. The downside is that this kind of role-playing game can be rough around the edges, with systems that ask for patience and a willingness to learn its way of doing things. In practice it feels slower and more deliberate than many slick action RPGs, and that slowness is part of the point. It sits closer to old-school, systems-heavy RPGs than to streamlined story adventures, so the comparison is more with deep role-playing games than with shooters or loot chase titles.
