MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries asks for patience: it is a contract-and-campaign mech game where you manage a lance, pick jobs, buy parts, and step into heavy robots for slow, punchy battles. By our assessment, its strongest point is the feeling of piloting lumbering war machines and fitting a mission around heat, weapons, armor, and damage control. The downside is just as clear: the missions can become repetitive, and the structure is built more around grinding work than around constant variety. In play it has the rhythm of planning, loading out, then crossing a battlefield with a lot of weight under you, which is satisfying if that pace is the point. Compared with faster mech games, it is more about managing a mercenary career than about arcade spectacle. MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries fits players who want the job, the upkeep, and the machine tuning together.
